For Those Who Missed All of It: Neuralink Is Developing Brain Implants
At the end of 2022, Elon Musk announced that Neuralink was preparing to test chips on humans. The main idea of this startup is to develop brain chip interfaces that can allow patients with disabilities to move and communicate again. And maybe even restore the vision, as Musk said.
Neuralink, based in San Francisco and Austin, Texas, has been conducting animal trials since 2017 to get approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to begin human clinical trials.
We want to be extremely cautious and make sure it works well before we put a device in a person… Initially, the progress, especially for humans, will seem maybe terribly slow, but we’re doing everything we can to scale it… So, theoretically, the progress should be exponential.
Well, well, well… It wasn’t slow at all, Elon!
As a “result of incredible work by the Neuralink team in close collaboration with the FDA,” the approval was received on the 26th of May, 2023 and the work started.

The Recent Results of the Experiment
″[The] patient seems to have made a full recovery with no ill effects that we are aware of and can control the mouse, move the mouse around the screen just by thinking,” – commented Musk on the Spaces session on platform X.
According to him, Neuralink specialists are now trying to get the patient to make as many mouse clicks as possible.
So far, that’s all the comments from the company and Elmo (again, sorry).
The process of this “mouse click” itself wasn’t shown either, and Musk hasn’t been rushing to tweet about it. Although as usual, he gives out a daily dose of cringe on the topic of immigration.
On Choosing Patients + Gossip

For reall it’s the coolest startup as it really gives hope to restore independence and improve the lives of people with serious disabilities!
The company is specifically looking for patients with tetraplegia due to a vertical spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), over the age of 22, who have a “permanent and reliable caregiver.”
The first stage is expected to last 18 months and involves nine visits to the clinic by the participants.
After that, the participants will spend at least two hours a week studying the brain-computer interface, and then make another 20 visits over the next five years.
Boring? You wanna scandal?
The company, run by one of the world’s richest men, said it plans only to cover “research-related expenses,” such as travel to and from the place of the study!
